Here's what you do: Go to one of our Buy Fresh Buy Local Partner restaurants for lunch or dinner. While you are there ask your server, "What's local today?" No matter what their response, thank them for the chef's support for local farmers.
By asking "what's local?" you are showing that customers care about where their food comes from. When chefs, waitstaff and owners know you care, they will see that you get good answers to your question.
THEN... Write bfbl@reapfoodgroup.org and tell us which restaurant you went to and how it was. Every month contributor's names will be pooled and a winner will be drawn to receive a beautiful Buy Fresh Buy Local tote bag. It makes a great doggy-bag carrier for all that eating-out you'll be doing!
Make sure your email contains the following:
1) Your name 2) Your contact information including phone number and address 3) The restaurant you ate at 4)Whether your waitperson was familiar with the restaurant's use of local products
You aren't limited to one per month- if you eat out three times tell us about each place. We'll enter your name three times into the drawing.
NOTE: This program isn't intended to "check up" on our Partners. We know a committment to local purchasing doesn't mean always having local product- sometimes that's just not possible. It also doesn't mean waitstaff will always be familiar with kitchen proceedures. So please be understanding. Our goal is to show restaurant owners, chefs and waistaff that consumers do care about local food and want to support them in their efforts to buy locally. When they see you care, they will respond.
