About Jean Feraca

Jean Feraca is one of the most visible and accomplished members of the Madison humanities community. She embarked upon a second career as a broadcast journalist after already having established a national reputation as a poet. She is renowned for her award-winning radio programs.

Feraca has a long and abiding interest in food and has explored the many cultural, aesthetic, and social facets of the way we eat in her popular weekly radio program “All About Food.” Recently, she was a keynoter at the Upper Midwest Organic Farming Conference, where she spoke on food, sustainability, and - most notably for this year’s Food For Thought Festival theme - on the critical role of food in the well-being of children.

Jean Feraca has both a poet’s gift for evocative language and a humanities scholar’s grasp of critical analysis. Along with her special interest in food and cooking, these characteristics make her a wonderful commentator for Alice Waters’ Forum lecture. She is also a mother who cares deeply what her children eat.
