This is an alphabetical listing of the farms found in the 2009 Farm Fresh Atlas. Please browse this list or use the quick links at the left to find a specific farm. 1. A-Z Farm A-Z Farm offers pasture-raised lamb and poultry without animal byproducts, growth stimulants or antibiotics. Freezer lambs, sheep pelts, wool and eggs are available. Farm tours are offered by reservation. Open houses in February and March. See website for details. All events are inside the 11,000-square-foot barn. 2. Amazing Grace Family Farm Thirty-three years of experience. Committed to philosophy and choices supporting sustainability and ecological diversity. Offering vegetables, honey and grass-fed, humanely raised beef. All free of chemicals, pesticides, hormones, GMOs, antibiotics, etc. Selling at local markets, food co-ops and on-farm veggie stand. We are confident you will be satisfied. Tours by appointment. 3. Anisoptera Acres Anisoptera Acres offers pasture-raised pork and beef and free-range chicken and duck. We grow most of our own feed on our 500-acre farm. We use no hormones, antibiotics or animal byproducts in our feed. All of our meat is processed by local, state inspected facilities. VISITORS WELCOME BUT PLEASE CALL AHEAD. 4. Appleberry Farm Conveniently located near the west Beltline of Madison, 4 miles west on Mineral Point Rd., left on Timber Lane, right on Maurer Rd. The scenic farm provides a wholesome family experience and famously fresh food. U-pick strawberries, raspberries and sweet corn. Heirloom apples, pumpkins, caramel apples, fresh cider, donuts, brats, hayrides and school tours. 5. Ashbury Herb Garden Ashbury Herb Garden is located in Baraboo. We are not open to the public and sell only at the Dane County Farmers’ Market on Saturdays. I am an organic consultant, gourmet gardener and raw foods specialist. We have grown over 300 varieties of herbs and have been published in many national horticulture magazines. 6. Berry Basket and Greenhouse, LLC Berry Basket and Greenhouse has been in business for 21 years. We grow strawberries, raspberries and asparagus. We also have a greenhouse for perennials, annuals, grasses and vegetables. While we are not certified organic, we follow many organic practices. Please see our website for a map and more info. 7. The Berry Farmer, Inc. From Baraboo, turn west onto Hwy W. Go 2.5 miles. Turn right onto Hoot Owl Rd. Strawberries mid-June to early July. U-pick and pre-picked strawberries and peas. Blueberries early July to mid-August. Call for picking information, (608) 355-1965. Containers provided or bring your own. Children always welcome. 8. Berry Hill Farm Berry Hill Farm is a U-pick strawberry farm located in the town of Middleton. From Hwy 12, take exit 253 onto Old Sauk Rd. Head west 3.7 miles. Some pre-picked are available. Our season typically begins early/mid-June and runs through early July. U-pick trays and quarts provided. Call ahead for hours and field conditions. 9.
BisonRidge Ranch, LLC BisonRidge Ranch buffalo are strictly grass-fed. Our animals are allowed to graze in roomy pastures on chemical- and pesticide-free grass. We do not give our animals antibiotics or growth hormones, ensuring you clean, healthful meat. All our animals are raised ethically and allowed to be the wild creatures they are. Meat is available for purchase on the farm Saturdays, noon-4pm, by appointment or you can purchase online. Ranch tours available by reservation May 15-October 15. 11. Bleu Mont Dairy Our farm sits atop a ridge in the driftless region. Committed to sustainable practices, we grow organically, have a passive solar home and greenhouse, produce our electricity from wind and solar. Our selection of cheeses includes organic, washed-rind and REAL raw-milk cheeses cured in our underground cave. BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. 12. Blue Marble Family Farm At Blue Marble Family Farm we know that change happens one small revolution at a time. We have two passions: producing the finest single-herd milk available and honoring the planet we all inhabit. Ask for our glass-bottled milk products at your favorite grocer, coffee shop and restaurants. Or check out our website for convenient home delivery program. Blue Marble now delivers our delicious milk products as well as eggs, butter and more, right to your door. Land - Farm - Table; the way freshness ought to be! 13. Blue Moon Community Farm Blue Moon is a small, diverse farm on Madison’s southern edge. We grow over 40 different vegetables, focusing on heirloom and great-tasting varieties, without the use of pesticides or chemical fertilizers. Pastured poultry, flowers and herbs complement our production system and all are available through our CSA, the Westside Community Market and restaurants throughout the area. 14. Blue Skies Berry Farm We grow raspberries, heirloom tomatoes, vegetables, herbs and greens using only organic inputs. U-pick season: mid-August to October. We are 16 miles south of the Beltline via Hwy 14, toward Evansville; turn right at Union (at Tavern) onto W. Union Rd. 1.5 miles and left on Crocker 500 ft. 15. Blue Valley Gardens Blue Valley Gardens is a certified organic fruit and vegetable farm located 30 miles west of Madison on the edge of the driftless region of southwestern Wisconsin. I started the farm in 1984 with asparagus and have grown since then adding raspberries, strawberries, mushrooms, pasture poultry, assorted annuals and naturally raised honey. We have been a vendor at Madison’s renowned Dane County Farmers’ Market for 20 years and retail our produce to restaurants and groceries. 16. Bluestem Farm We propagate and sell native wildflowers, grasses, shrubs and trees for rain gardens and landscaping. Later in season we sell heirloom apples and grapes grown without pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. See us at the Dane County Farmers’ Market, on the farm Sundays May through June, or by appointment other times. 17. Bures Berry Patch Specializing in pre-picked and U-pick strawberries, pumpkins, summer and fall raspberries. We also cultivate asparagus and rhubarb. Call for hours/availability. From Madison: travel Hwy 18/151 west for ~30 miles. Go 2.5 miles past Barneveld. Turn south on W. Brigham Rd., go 1 mile. See you in the patch! 18. Carandale Farm Visit our farm for U-pick or pre-picked strawberries, Concord grapes and fall raspberries. We also vend our fruits at the Dane County Farmers’ Market including uncommon fruit from our test plot (aronia, sea berries, currants, gooseberries, blackberries, cherries and more!). We’re at the end of S. Fish Hatchery Rd., 8.5 miles from the Madison Beltline. 19. Cates Family Farm We offer lean, natural Angus beef: frozen cuts, smoked summer sausage, beef sticks and jerky. Our steers are grass-fed and free-range; most are grass-finished. Certified by Food Alliance Midwest, indicating our meat is raised sustainably, locally, antibiotic and hormone free, and land and water friendly. We are also certified by the Animal Welfare Institute. South from Spring Green 4 miles on Hwy 23 then left 2.5 miles on Cty T. VISITS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY, PLEASE. 21. Circle M Market Farm Circle M is a family homestead 40 minutes southwest of Madison. We steward the land in a circle of nurture with various animals, joined by shareholders who visit by appointment and for festivals. We deliver CSA produce shares biweekly to Madison and sell natural meats and wool products. Visit daily via our farm blog. 22. Coulee View Family Farm We raise pastured chicken, eggs, hogs, turkey and lamb. All of our animals are either free-ranged, day-ranged, or moved daily in portable shelters ensuring constant access to fresh pasture. We do not use hormones, stimulants or routine antibiotics. We treat our animals humanely and with respect. 23. Country Bumpkin Farm Market U-pick and We-pick strawberries, summer and fall raspberries, blueberries, grapes, fruits and melons, vegetables, flowers and pumpkins. Enjoy our gardens, gift shop, greenhouses or an ice cream cone! Open daily, April 25-October 31. Take Exit 89 onto Hwy 23, south 1/2 mile to Hwy P on right. (Super Wal-Mart is on left.) Turn right onto Hwy P. We are 1 mile on left. 24. Creek Bed Farm, LLC Through four generations of farming, our family and friends have savored the quality beef we raise without hormone implants, antibiotics or animal byproducts. We process at a local, state inspected butcher. Our dry-aged beef is sold by wholes, halves or quarters. Call friends and COWPOOL! You’ll save $—and still have each portion cut to your specifications. 25. Creek Farm Enterprises We are a family-owned and -operated goat dairy and produce farm located between Darlington and Fayette off Hwy F. We relocated from Pennsylvania in 2004 with plans to supplement the dairy with various farm products. Currently we have fresh produce. We connect with consumers through our CSA program, a farm stand open 6 days a week throughout the season, and the Darlington Farmers’ Market on Saturday mornings. We farm organically and sustainably. We have no Sunday sales and desire no outside Sunday activity whatsoever. 26. Donna’s Organic Gardens, LLC Donna’s Organic Gardens, LLC, is located 10 miles west of Hartford or 1 mile east of Hustisford on Hwy 60. The farm is south of Hwy 60 on Hwy EE. Sales are at both the gray house and gray barn locations. I am certified organic with Global Organic Alliance and pasture-raise Piedmontese beef, chicken, turkey and lamb. I also have eggs, strawberries, raspberries and potatoes. Available year-round is wild Alaska salmon and purebred Icelandic wool. Gourds are available for crafts. 27. Door Creek Orchard U-pick and pre-picked apples are offered as well as U-pick table and wine grapes, fall raspberries and pumpkins. Unpasteurized cider is pressed weekly. Meat and naturally colored yarn available from our Black Welsh Mountain sheep. Season: mid-August to late November. From Madison take Hwy 12/18 east 3 miles past I-90, turn right on Vilas Rd. and go 1/2 mile. 28. Dreamfarm, LLC Dreamfarm has the pleasure of milking goats morning and evening to create cheese on its small family farm. Artisan cheese maker Diana Murphy handcrafts fresh goat cheese. Laying hens of various breeds produce colorful eggs. Animals on our farm are free to roam pastures and eat organic hay and grain. 30. Driftless Organics Certified organic vegetable and fruit farm nestled in the hills and valleys of northern Crawford County. Our specialty is potatoes, but we grow over 40 different varieties of fruits and vegetables. We also grow sunflowers for organic sunflower oil and raise grass-finished beef! We have about 120 acres in cultivation. Our products can be seen at local food co-ops in Madison and the Twin Cities. Emerald Meadows Our family’s 180-acre organic farm grows a wide variety of field crops, spring bedding plants (vegetables, herbs, flowers), fruits and vegetables. Favorites include heirloom tomatoes, raspberries, green beans, peppers and sweet corn. We sell at Sun Prairie, Monona and Eastside Madison farmers’ markets. On-farm sales/visits by appointment. Wholesale and CSA available. 32. Eplegaarden, LLC A real old-fashioned Norwegian 100-acre farm. Families and all ages have fun selv plukkin their own apples, berries and pumpkins, doing hayrides, Halloween, picnics and much more in the store. In the city of Fitchburg, 4 miles south of Madison Beltline on Seminole Hwy, 1/4 mile west to Fitchburg Rd. 33. Evans Family Farm Five generation Earth friendly farm. Bushels of our famous, sweet, rare ground cherries. Basil, dill, picklers, tomatoes, squash, rare and common peppers, and much more! Canning tomatoes also available. Place your order early to guarantee. Garlic scapes in early summer! Call or email us. Ground cherries and scapes can be mailed. Visit us at the Janesville and Dane County farmers’ markets. 34. Flyte Family Farm Too! and Greenhouses Offering U-Pick and We-Pick strawberries and blueberries. Tomatoes and English cucumbers grown hydroponically extend our outdoor vegetable season. Just off I-39, exit WI-21 west to Frontage Rd., north to second left on Cottonville Ave. 35. Foster’s Fall Harvest Foster’s Fall Harvest has all your fall and Halloween decorator needs in one spot. We grow a large variety of specialty pumpkins. Choose from the best jack-o’-lantern selection in the area. Hayrides offered Sundays in October, 1-4pm. Also have squash, gourds (including dried birdhouses), Indian corn, corn shocks, straw bales (4 sizes) and mums. Apples, cider, Amish jams and candy, and craft items are sold in the shed, Monday-Friday, 5-7pm, and Saturday-Sunday, 9am-7pm. Open September through October. Look for our big turkey out front. Fountain Prairie Inn & Farms We’re proud of our grass-fed, grain-finished Highland beef, raised without hormones or antibiotic food additives. Our 21-day dry aging results in tender, intensely flavored meat. Our Highland beef and Berkshire pork can be found at area restaurants and at the Saturday Dane County Farmers’ Market. We welcome visits to our farm, but please call first. 37. Future Fruit Farm Our family farm is a certified organic orchard that produces unusual and difficult-to-grow varieties of apples and pears. The delicious taste of our Future Fruit is sought after. Our artisan fruit can be found at local stores, fine restaurants, Dane County and Westside Community farmers’ markets, and as a member of our Organic Fruit CSA. No farm visits please. 38. Garden To Be We are professional gardeners working with distinguished chefs and culinary establishments to create local seasonal cuisine. We believe that when farmers and chefs unite to create a regional food system, agriculture can thrive, farmers can have a healthy quality of life, and chefs can have access to the freshest ingredients available. 39. Gooch Farms We are a small family farm. We raise European red deer for meat, breeding stock, antlers and hides, without the use of antibiotics, growth hormones, or animal byproducts in our feed. Our animals are born and raised on our farm. We sell our venison at the Dane County Farmers’ Market and other venues. We also offer both U-pick and pre-picked pumpkins. Come to our annual Pumpkin Fest (hayrides, corn maze and feed the deer). Open every weekend in October. 40. Good Earth Farms, LLC Farming as if everything matters. Our mission: To produce humanely raised, high quality organic grass-fed beef and lamb, pastured pork, pasture-raised chicken and turkey at a reasonable price, and then deliver it to your door! Green’s Pleasant Springs Orchard We grow 65 varieties of apples, tomatoes, specialty lettuces and pumpkins. Fresh, unpasteurized cider is pressed each week in season. For 30 years we have grown quality produce, mindful of food safety and the environment. We sell at the orchard, Dane County Farmers’ Market and Westside Community Market in Madison. 42. Greenspirit Farm Greenspirit Farm is an ecologically focused, family-run farm. We grow a wide selection of high quality, often heirloom vegetables for you. We pledge always to grow your food in a sustainable way, to treat our land with love, respect and care, and to remain local. You are welcome at the farm anytime. Harmony Valley Farm Located in a secluded, spring-fed valley in western Wisconsin, we have been providing the La Crosse-to-Madison area with certified organic produce since 1985. We supply the Dane County Farmers’ Market, our CSA program, retail stores and fine restaurants with the highest quality vegetables, fruits and herbs. CSA signup on our website. 44. Hazeltines Strawberries In the strawberry business for 30 years, Hazeltines offers 15 acres of high quality strawberries, both U-pick and pre-picked. Call ahead for picking conditions. From Madison: Hwy 14 south, 28 miles. Turn right (south) at Hwy H, continue about 5 miles. Turn right onto Hwy 11 for 1/2 mile. Hazeltines will be on the right (north) side. 45. High Meadow Farm CSA Although this is our first year as a CSA, we have been growing organically since 1980. Our goal is to provide delicious, local food for our community and to encourage a relationship with the farm to our members. We also grow a large potato crop for pre-orders and market sales. 46. Hillsboro Meats, LLC Hillsboro Meats offers grass-fed, free-range, all-natural heritage chickens with Label Rouge genetics, raised on a vegetarian diet on Amish family farms in southwestern Wisconsin. Whole birds 3.75-4.75 pounds each. Succulent old-fashioned flavor with a firm texture will bring back memories of Sunday dinner! Deliveries to Madison and Milwaukee areas. 47. Hillspring Eco-Farm LAMB: tender, sumptuous Tunis (Ark of Taste list). BEEF: lean, ground Scottish Highland. BRATS, SUMMER SAUSAGE. Heritage animals plus eco-organic practices, pasture grazing (no grain), and loving care = heart healthy, nutritious meat with amazing gourmet flavors. Also, Tunis and Jacob fleeces, wool roving, yarn, socks, pelts, fiber classes and goats’ milk. 48. Hinchley’s Dairy Farm Hinchley’s Dairy Farm is a real dairy farm that offers educational tours of the farm, with hands-on opportunities to hand milk a cow, gather eggs and take a hayride to pick a free pumpkin in October. Farm raised chicken, turkey, duck and rabbit for sale, and U-pick raspberries, squash, pumpkins and eggs. Farm is just a short drive from Madison, Janesville or Milwaukee, 2844 Hwy 73 outside of Cambridge. 49. Homestead Animal Farm Homestead Animal Farm has been in our family for over 130 years. Come out and watch goats on the grass-roofed barns, take a hayride around the farm, or enjoy our corn maze. We offer homegrown pumpkins, gourds, cornstalks, straw bales and more. Open Saturdays and Sundays, 10am-6pm, from September 26-November 1. Field trips available by appointment. 51. Jelli’s Market We are a U-pick strawberry farm and also offer many other summer and fall produce items. Raspberries, peas, green beans, tomatoes and sweet corn all available as U-pick or pre-picked. Call hotline or visit website for daily updates from April-October. Located 5 miles east of Johnson Creek; I-94 exit to Cty B. Take B east 5 miles to S. Farmington Rd. Watch for signs. 52. JenEhr Family Farm Organic diversity—good for the land, neighbors and everyone who enjoys great-tasting, nutritious, locally raised organic produce and pastured poultry. Kay and Paul at JenEhr are Wisconsin born and bred farm kids, raising more than 50 different fruits and vegetables, offering organic strawberry U-pick and enough pastured chickens and turkeys to keep you well fed year-round. Jordandal Farm Jordandal Farm raises grass-finished beef, Icelandic lamb, pastured pork, chicken and turkey along with specialty potatoes. Though not certified organic yet, we use no pesticides or herbicides. A beautiful 45-minute drive from Madison. Look for us at the Westside Community Market and Dane County Farmers’ Market. WE WELCOME VISITS BY APPOINTMENT. 54. JR’s Country Acres We are located in Lake Mills, midway between Milwaukee and Madison. We offer eggs, broiler chickens, turkeys, pork and limited seasonal fresh produce. All animals are fed natural grains and can access pasture, fresh air and sunshine. Hormone and antibiotic free! No farm visits or Sunday calls, PLEASE! 55. Keene Organics Keene Organics is a certified organic family farm located north of Marshall. We produce wonderful organic vegetables, berries, vegetable transplants and over 15 varieties of gourmet garlic. Our on-farm bakery produces baked goods, preserves and herbs from our farm and locally sourced ingredients. We can be found at the Friends of the Marshall Library Farmers’ Market on Saturday mornings. Visit our website. Call for CSA. 56. Keewaydin Farms Keewaydin Farms is a family-owned farm that is both certified organic and fair trade. We specialize in market garden vegetables, herbs and fruits, which we sell through our CSA program, as well as milk from our small herd of mixed-breed dairy cows. 57. Kickapoo Gold, LLC Our certified organic Kickapoo Gold maple syrup is made with quality processing and family tradition. Our syrup is sold in many stores, farmers’ markets and on the web. Pancake breakfasts and tours are offered during the sugaring season, March to early April. We also sell Leader Evaporator equipment for all your sugar making needs. 58. King’s Hill Farm King’s Hill Farm is a family farm with a community supported agriculture program. We are certified organic and integrating permaculture practices. We have a diverse focus for annual vegetables, herbs, and flowers; planting perennial fruits and nuts; inoculating shiitake logs; and nurturing 10 hives of bees. Join us by becoming a member! 59. Krause Family Farms At Krause Family Farms our beef and hogs are naturally raised. We participate in the Certified Angus Beef Program. Locally processed and state inspected, the meat is sold as halves and quarters only. Each spring we make maple syrup. The syrup is bottled in glass and plastic in a number of different sizes. We also grow natural-shaded ginseng in our farm woods. Our farm is located approximately 60 miles west of Madison. Visitors welcome. Please call before coming. 60. Krusen Grass Farms We are a 240-acre grass farm 4 miles southwest of East Troy in southeastern Wisconsin. Our beef and eggs are certified organic, all natural, grass-fed and pastured.
We do not use confinement, antibiotics or hormones 61. Lange Farm Meats We raise certified organic beef, pork, chicken and turkey through our on-farm store. We provide individual cuts, sides or quarters of beef and pork. We are state inspected and certified organic. We do not use herbicides, pesticides, antibiotics or hormones. PLEASE CALL AHEAD FOR ON-FARM SALES AND/OR TOURS. We are a grass-based operation. 62. Lapacek’s Orchard We are a small family-owned and -operated business conveniently located just 1/2 mile east of Poynette on Hwy CS and Q. During apple season, we offer over 30 varieties of apples, delicious caramel apples and unpasteurized apple cider. Our farm offers many family activities. Please see our website for more details! 64. Lost Lake Acres Greenhouse Lost Lake Acres Greenhouse is a family-owned business started as a single greenhouse operation in 1992. We now have 10 greenhouses to shop from. We specialize in hanging baskets and planters for sun or shade. We offer a full line of vegetable plants, perennials, bedding plants and proven winners. Fresh asparagus is available in season. Open to the public April through June. Only 35 minutes northeast of Madison. PLEASE CALL FOR HOURS AND DIRECTIONS. 65. MacFarlane Pheasants, Inc. MacFarlane Pheasants, Inc. is the largest game bird producer in the United States. Since 1929, we have been raising naturally grown, free-range pheasants. We have been featured on the “Food Network” and are members of “Something Special from Wisconsin.” We offer a great selection of nutritious exotic products in our retail store, Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm, Saturdays, November/December, 11am-3pm, or at our website. TOURS ARE AVAILABLE BUT MUST BE PRESCHEDULED. 66. Marr Family Farm, LLC Our fine beef is grown using high quality grasses and some grain to add flavor and tenderness for a nutritious meal of steaks, burgers, roasts and more. We produce our beef using sustainable practices that are environmentally friendly. Our hay and pasturelands receive no chemicals. Call ahead so we can bring your order to the Dane County Farmers’ Market on Saturday. 67. Marsden’s Pure Honey Marsden’s is a producer/packer. Products include Wisconsin specialty honeys in glass and plastic containers, comb honey, spun honey, homemade candles and seasonal fresh fruit including peaches, plums and apples. Look for us at the McFarland Farmers’ Market and Dane County Farmers’ Market. Visitors are welcome. Please call ahead. 68. Meadow Brook Farm-Avoca We raise dozens of cultivars of potatoes from fingerling potatoes to the ever popular Yukon Gold. We also raise onions, squash, broccoli, scallions and early sweet corn. Because we live in a valley, we pasture sheep on the hillsides and we sell lamb. At the end of September, we also have a Pumpkin and Potato Festival. 69. Middlebury Hills We bring fresh, seasonal food straight to your table, with fruits, vegetables, eggs, meats, honey and more. Members appreciate our multiple share options and annual events. Abandoned for 47 years, our farm is returning to sustainable life through CSA. Join us and become part of a local family farm. 70. Misty Meadows Dairy Located outside of Monroe, Misty Meadows Dairy is home to 200 dairy goats. We spend every day milking goats and tending our ever expanding garden. We love bringing the freshest produce, goat cheeses and soaps to the Janesville and Hilldale farmers’ markets. From our garden straight to your table every week. 71. Mitchell Vineyard Mitchell Vineyard began in 1976 and now has 11 varieties of U-pick grapes covering 6 acres for eating, juice and especially winemaking. The farm has picking buckets, crusher and press for free use by customers. Picking Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday in September and early October, 10am-4pm. Call for info. 72. Morningwood Farm Nursery We are a full-service nursery located west of Madison, specializing in distinctive and Wisconsin-hardy ornamental plants, vegetable plants, fruit trees and other woody plants. Our staff of horticulturists will assist in selecting plants and designing your garden. We also provide landscape design and installation using native plants and earth-sustaining techniques. 73. New Era Farm, Inc. Located in rural Cashton, Vernon County, New Era Farm uses only sustainable farming practices in growing delicious organic food. We offer a summer-fall CSA program and a seasonal on-site farm stand featuring a wide variety of vegetables, berries, cut flowers and preserves made from our own organic fruits. 74. Northwood Farm Northwood Farm, a certified organic dairy, beef and crop farm has been worked by Goodman families since 1889. We direct market dry-aged beef year-round in bundles or individual cuts. Uplands Cheese Co./Grass Dairy Uplands Cheese Co./Grass Dairy is an organic, rotational grazing farm and cheese manufacturing business in Dodgeville. Our cheese, Pleasant Ridge Reserve, is made on the farm using milk from our own pasture-fed cows. We only make cheese when our pastures are at their best and age it in caves for 4-18 months.
