What is Farm to School? REAP’s Farm to School program brings fresh, local fruits and vegetables to the students of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD). REAP Farm to School focuses on the most in-need students through our snack program in the lowest income elementary schools and classroom education in the same schools teaching students learn where their food comes from and what it does to their bodies. In 2015, 27 tons of fresh, local fruits and vegetables were served to 50,000 students. This year, REAP and MMSD hope to serve over 100 tons of local produce in student lunches and snacks. Middle and high school students learn hands-on culinary skills from some of Madison’s best chefs in the Chef in the Classroom program. The MMSD Summer Food Service program serves free meals, including local produce, to students during one of the most food insecure times of year. At REAP’s Family Food Fest students, families, and community members explore, learn about, and celebrate Farm to School.
